Murchison greenstone belt, the magnesiopelites in which the Antimony Line occurs have an average Sb value of 50 p.p.m. (about 50 times the average abundance in pelites).
The Belingwe Greenstone Belt contains a variety of igneous and metamorphic rocks, set in a granite-gneiss terrain. Five main tectonic units are identified. The oldest unit is the ~3.5 Ga Shabani-Tokwe Gneiss Complex, forming much of the terrain to the east of the belt and partly underlying much of the greenstones.
The Blanket Mine is situated in the Gwanda Greenstone Belt, a typical Archaean greenstone-hosted gold deposit. The deposit is situated on the northwest limb of the Gwanda Greenstone Belt along strike from several other prominent gold deposits. Blanket is the largest producing mine in a belt which at one time had 268 operating mines.

Despite the fact that more than 300 deposits and prospects are known in the greenstone belt, the bulk of the gold production comes from a handful of mines, namely Fairview, Sheba, New Consort, Agnes and Princeton mines, all located in the northern portion of the greenstone belt near the contact between the Barberton Greenstone Belt and the Kaap ...

The Filabusi greenstone belt is one of the smaller greenstone belts of the Zimbabwe craton, with a maximum length of 55 km and a maximum width of 20 km, thinning to less than 2 km at its eastern end near the Great Dyke (Figure 1, [10,11]). It has been remapped recently in an effort to update basic geological information required for exploration ...
AbstractA.M. Macgregor (1888-1961) is remembered for his enormous contribution to geology. His maps changed the course of geological thinking in southern Africa. Following in his footsteps we examine aspects of our current understanding of the geological ...
Archaean greenstone belts and associated granitic rocks comprise some of the most diverse rock types on the Earth's surface and were formed during the early stages of the development of the planet ...
A study on the Bellingwe Greenstone Belt, presenting the stratigraphy of the belt, its structure and tectonic setting, the sedimentology of what may be a rift basin, the geochemistry of the freshest Archaean komatiites …
This study investigates the structural control of the numerous gold occurrences in the southern part of the Barberton Greenstone Belt in the Malolotja and Steynsdorp areas. The gold-bearing event distribution is studied using field structural geology associated with a petrological and microstructural analysis. Three major tectonic events have been identified in …
The Belingwe greenstone belt is situated in the southern part of the Zimbabwe Craton, north of the Limpopo belt and east of the Great Dyke (Fig. 1).It contains a well preserved, 2.9–2.65 Ga old volcano-sedimentary sequence which is surrounded by granitoid-gneiss terrains, the 3.5 Ga Shabani gneiss complex to the east and the 2.9 Ga Chingezi gneiss complex to the …
The present configuration of the greenstone belts is explained. Three ages of granite-greenstone terrain can be recognized within the Zimbabwe Archean Craton. The oldest greenstone belt remnants constitute the volcano-sedimentary Sebakwian group dated at c. 3.5 Ga minimum on the evidence from various granites and gneisses.
A study on the Bellingwe Greenstone Belt, presenting the stratigraphy of the belt, its structure and tectonic setting, the sedimentology of what may be a rift basin, the geochemistry of the freshest Archaean komatiites yet found, and models of the evolution of the region. Zimbabwe is perhaps the only country whose colonisation by Europeans was a direct result of its perceived rich and wide variety of gold deposits. The Portuguese occupied parts of the country in the 17th century and traded in gold with local miners. Following the accounts of the Portuguese, and information gathered by 19th century explorers and hunters, a lot of …
The Mazowe group of mines (principal mines Mazowe, Bernheim and Stori's Golden Shaft) is situated within the Harare-Bindura-Shamva greenstone belt of the Zimbabwean Archaean craton,...
This similarity suggests that the geological history of much of the greenstone belt is similar. All major gold deposits in the Geita Greenstone Belt lack close proximity to crustal-scale shear zones; they are associated with intrusive complexes and volcanics that formed in an oceanic plateau rather than subduction setting, and formed late ...
Winsky [1995] on the Belingwe belt, and Dirks and van der Merwe [ 1997] on the Midlands greenstone belt (see Figure 1). Juxtaposition of tectonostratigraphic units is indicated for the Belingwe and Midlands greenstone belts (Figure 1). In the Bel- ingwe belt, structural mapping by Kusky and Winsky [ 1995] has
The New Consort Gold Mine in the Palaeo- to Mesoarchaean Barberton greenstone belt, South Africa is one of the oldest recognized orogenic gold deposits on Earth.
